NBC 2009 Press Day

"Southland" (NBC), "The Fashion Show" (Bravo), and "America's Got Talent" (NBC) are a few of the shows that were introduced at a recent press day for NBC Universal's 2009 summer releases. Regina King, Kelly Rowland, and Nick Cannon were on hand for the networks presentation.

King stars in "Southland," a drama about a police unit in Los Angeles. She plays Detective Lydia Adams, a multifaceted woman juggling her career, responsibilities at home and, her love life.

"She's strong, but she's still feminine and vulnerable," says King about her character. "She loves her job, but it's not best for her love life. Talking to a lot of the detectives that are not married, detectives on the force, they know the emotion that Lydia has regarding not having a man in her life or losing a man in her life, a lot of them resemble that same sentiment."

"Southland," a John Wells Production in association with Warner Bros. Television airs on Thursdays (10-11 p.m. ET) on NBC.

The new reality series "The Fashion Show" follows 15 professional designers as they compete for a chance to have their designs sold in the retail market and win a $125,000 prize. Rowland is a host and judge on the show.

"The Fashion Show" premieres Thursday May 7 (10-11 p.m. ET) on Bravo.

"America's Got Talent" returns for the fourth season this summer with the hottest performers from across the country ready to compete. New judge Nick Cannon, who is a fan of the show plans to bring his comedic background and the empathy of once being in the contestants shoes to the show.

"When that young man or woman walks up or when this family walks up, I know exactly what they're going through. I know everything that they're feeling. I know the butterflies in the stomach. I know the tingling on the back of the neck before they step out on that stage. I know the excitement of this possibly being the biggest crowd that they've ever performed in front of, but then, at the same time, that fear of, like, making sure you're going to hit all the right notes and performing in front of celebrities," says Cannon.

"American's Got Talent" premieres Tuesday, June 23 and Wednesday, June 24
