Continuing the Legacy - Candace Taylor in concert

This benefit concert celebrates the lives & accomplishments of African American musical artists and siblings Annette Pierson Poulard and Freddie Pierson, both of whom had a tremendous impact on the development of many young artists, especially Candace Taylor.

Annette and Freddie passed away in 2007, and their mother Ms. Juanita Pierson will be our guest of honor at the concert.

Accompanied by a professional orchestra of 30 musicians, Ms. Taylor will perform such classics as Vissi d'arte from Puccini's Tosca and Dvoøak's Songs My Mother Taught Me. She will also be singing jazz standards well known to her fans from her years of performing in the Shreveport area. Shreveport composer Tom Hundemer and composer Philippe Lévesque from Montreal will be signing brand new symphonic arrangements commissioned for this special occasion. A strong legacy from Freddie and Annette's lives is the giving of encouragement, instruction & opportunities to perform to developing musical artists. This concert will continue that legacy - being an occasion to showcase some of this area's up and coming musical talent such as mezzo-soprano Deedra Johnson and cellist Alexis Barnett . What an opportunity for these young artists to be featured in such a way! Supporting, mentoring, and educating young musicians were keystones of Annette and Freddie's musical philosophy and these aspects are the cornerstones of the Freddie Pierson Memorial Scholarship that will assist underprivileged young musical artists in the community. Profits from this concert will benefit the Freddie Pierson Memorial Scholarship Fund, administered by the Performing Arts Studio, a non-profit organization.

Tickets: $100 Patron Select / $50 Individual. $100 Patron Select ticket holders will enjoy premium seating and be invited to a special after-concert soiree. Call 1.800.957.8667 or visit www.gsnla.org for reservations
